New: launching the ISCRAM Mailing List

At the start of this new year, I am happy to announce the launch of the ISCRAM Mailing List service for our Community!

We have tested the system in the past weeks, and are now ready to open it up to the world - literally, as ISCRAM community members are from 76 different countries!

Remembering 26 December 2005 Tsunami

Today, we remember the Tsunami that caused such an immense loss of human live throughout South-East Asia on December 26 2005, exactely one year ago. In the year since, many initiatives to contribute to the relief of the affected regions have been developed, not only by the world"s nations but more so by ordinary people, with their own limited means and possibilities.

David Mendonca (NJIT, ISCRAM2005 PC) wins NSF Career Award

Our Program Committee member David Mendonca, PhD, assistant professor of information systems at the New Jersey Institute of Technology who has worked to improve the way society responds to disasters, has received a National Science Foundation Career award--the foundationís most prestigious award for new faculty members.  


At the core of David"s work will be improving the publicís understanding of how to improvise successfully in emergencies.


Major Terrorism Events and their US Outcomes

Claire B. Rubin, William R. Cumming, and Irmak Renda-Tanali have just issued a new report, "Major Terrorism Events and Their U.S. Outcomes (2002 and 2003)."  As an update to an earlier publication, this report provides information about terrorism events and outcomes for the years 2002 and 2003. It describes 22 new pieces of legislation, 22 new executive directives, 10 new national strategies, and a host of organizational and other changes since the events of September 11, 2001. World Conference on Disaster Management 2005 CFP

The Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness (CCEP) is calling for presentations for the 15th World Conference on Disaster Management (WCDM) which will be held in Toronto on July 10-13, 2005. The conference theme will be the "Changing Face of Disaster Management: Defining the New Normal."

Abstracts are due December 4, 2004.
