Each year millions of people are affected by natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes, tsunamis, droughts, and volcanoes, and man-made disasters like industrial accidents, transport accidents, and terrorism. Various activities are needed to minimize the fatal casualties of these disasters, such as the evacuation of people and provision of first needs like food, water, sanitation facilities, shelter, medical care, and protection.

Session chairs: Paul Currion, Chamindra de Silva and Willem Murhen.
