Categories: ISCRAM2007 Conference, Summer School 2007

The purpose of this session is to lay out drivers of and solutions to the range of problems faced in the design and implementation of information systems (IS) in support of crisis response activities within the context of least developing countries (LDC). It comes as no surprise that the lack of economical, technological and educational means and the spectrum of problems that contribute or result from this affect IS solutions to respond to crises in LDCs. These include, but are not limited to, a lack of skilled and properly trained personnel both in the fields of IT and crisis management, as well as a range of issues associated with the social, cultural, institutional and economic structures that adversely affect social and physical risks in the LDCs.
